May 16, 2013
Hosts and Historians: Fay McCrea and Heather Broadbent
Featuring: Heritage Landscapes throughout the Town of Caledon
Tour will commence at 9:00 a.m. from Caledon Community complex and hopefully returning by 3:30 p.m.
Morning Snack and Break approx. 10:30 a.m. (tba) with a possible slide show of some landscape features no longer visible or accessible.
Lunch will be approx. 12:30 p.m. at Spirit Tree Estate Cidery on Boston Mills Road (compliments of John Grogan).
This year will be a slightly different tour giving an overview of how Caledon evolved, and the special features in this area – the Niagara Escarpment, the Oak Ridges Moraine and the Peel plain.
We will be explaining how and when this area was surveyed and the measurements and instruments used to accomplish this.
Grand brick houses were built in the Chinguacousy area as a result of successful wheat farmers, stone houses where stone was readily available, stone fences, cedar rail fences, rock and red clay formations, etc.
We will not actually be going into any buildings – it will be just a lovely relaxed ride in an air conditioned coach on a glorious spring day while you hear an explanation of what you are actually seeing!!
Sound like fun?
Tickets $35 each.
Please call or email.
We promise it will be a memorable day!!
