HVHTA AGM Hosting Authors as Guest Speakers
April 7, 2014

The Humber Valley Heritage Trail Association
invites you to its Annual General Meeting (Bolton Chapter) this Wednesday April
9th at 7 p.m.  The meeting is at Humberview Secondary School (in the library),
135 Kingsview Drive, Bolton.

The guest speakers are Jim and Sue Waddington, authors of “In the Footsteps
of the Group of Seven”, which describes their search for the sites that inspired
the Group of Seven’s paintings.  Their talk will include photographs – side by
side with the corresponding paintings – of some of the over 300 locations they
found that are immortalized in the famous paintings.  The Waddingtons will also
talk about some of the Group of Seven’s painting sites in Caledon.

Their book will be available for sale ($55 + $2.75 HST). All proceeds of book
sales are going to the Art Gallery of Sudbury.

The Waddingtons’ Facebook page is: www.facebook.com/FootstepsGroup7

The Humber Valley Heritage Trail Association (HVHTA) is a not-for-profit
organization that operates a trail for recreational hiking on TRCA lands in the
Humber Valley. The HVHTA provides the highest quality pedestrian hiking
experience to foster appreciation of the amazing natural beauty and diversity of
the Humber Valley.  The trail runs from the Trans Canada Trail on Humber Station
Road near Albion Hills Conservation Area in Caledon, through Bolton, to Binder
Twine Park in Kleinburg.  Annual membership in the HVHTA is $20 per
household.

Goose Lane Books says this about the Waddingtons' book:

In the Footsteps of the Group of Seven

Sue Waddington (Author)
Jim Waddington (Author)

Nearly a century ago, a group of artists travelled into northern Ontario and farther afield to capture the raw, terrible beauty that lay just beyond the outskirts of Canada’s cities and towns. Armed with sketchbooks, brushes, and paintboxes, they set off into the heart of the wilderness with the singular purpose of interpreting the landscape in a modern mode of artistic expression.

In July 1977, Jim and Sue Waddington set off on their own expedition to discover the places that inspired these artists. Determined to locate, document, and photograph the actual landscapes that inspired A.Y. Jackson, Franklin Carmichael, Arthur Lismer, Lawren Harris, A.J. Casson, J.E.H. MacDonald, Tom Thomson, and Frederick Varley, the Waddingtons began a 36-year journey — tracking down clues, deciphering bits of information, tracing ancient portage routes, and exploring hidden inlets — all with the purpose of finding the very spots that gave birth to the work of the Group of Seven.

In presenting reproductions of the original paintings and contemporary photographs of the locations where the original works were created, the Waddingtons invite us to come face to face with the elusive muses that enlightened and enriched this renowned group of artists.

All proceeds from sales of the book will go to the Art Gallery of Sudbury.
