Old meets New - a Graffiti Wall on a piece of History

Caledon Ontario – July 25 & 26 2015.  Street artist extraordinaire - Ean Kools, in partnership with the Caledon Heritage Foundation (CHF), will be doing his stuff on a 4’ X 16’ graffiti wall made from tin panels reclaimed from the Caledon East Orange Lodge.

The tin panels, patterned and coloured to look like brickwork, were installed in 1895 as an upgrade to the hall’s original painted board and batten siding. You can take a piece of Caledon’s heritage home by bidding on the panel of graffiti you would like to own.

Ean will be working on one image on Saturday and a different on Sunday, but look for common themes such as Pan Am, Caledon, CHF, DAREarts etc..

With over 150 exhibitors, BizBaz is proving to be an exciting new event for the region with something for everyone.  Where else can you: get a tattoo, eat crickets, see a drone, hit a golf ball, maybe win $5,000, have a beer, pat an alpaca, play kin-ball, enjoy a taco, have your nails done, buy some art or just sit and soak-in the atmosphere of one of the most beautiful golf courses in Ontario.

In addition, BizBaz is on the last weekend of the Pan Am Equestrian events held in the area.  And with the Pan Am Games Equestrian organizational team in Caledon supporting BizBaz as one of its key events, BizBaz has access over 22,000 visitors destined for Caledon and Mono.

But the real difference is at BizBaz visitors are encouraged to socialize with seating and picnic areas to relax and enjoy great food and drink.  Spend time with exhibitors to learn more about what they do and how.

A real favourite will be the BizBaz Mini-Putt. Six holes created in partnership with a local organization and artist: Pan Am Caledon & Jennifer McKinnen, DAREarts & Ken Hall, Caledon OPP & James Peglar, Food and Water First & Rosemary Hasner, Headwaters Tourism & Gabrielle Fischer, Glen Williams Mill & their resident artists.  Visitors can play the holes and vote on their favourite.

A similar event has been going strong for over 15 years in Kenya and when Lab Partners saw its uniqueness and success they knew they could bring the same to Ontario.

BizBaz is dog friendly and has a kid zone for children and adults alike.  Other activities include fly-fishing and tying, airbrush body art, archery, mini-putt, and music from 401Radio.

Come on your horse, cycle, car or motorbike. Admission and parking is free.

Notes to Editor

Here are some of the planned activities:

Caledon Archers – Take part in an archery competition or just learn how to use a bow.

BizBaz Mini-Putt – Six mini-putts developed by local artists and sponsors/businesses.  You can play and then vote on your favourite.

Re/Max Hot Air Balloon – Wind permitting rides in this hot balloon will be available.

Body art including Tattoo – Citrus Tattoo – get a tattoo or watch one being done. Feather extensions for your hair from Jody’s Flair for Hair and acrylic nails from Maria at Spa Zone.

Drones – Industrial SkyWorks is a Toronto-based commercial unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and data solutions company. They will be demonstrating UAV and data and image collection and image modeling.

Kin-Ball - Kin-Ball, is a team sport created in Quebec, Canada in 1986 by Mario Demers, a physical education professor, in which the main distinctive characteristics are the big size of the ball (about 1.5 meters of diameter) and that the matches are played between three teams at the same time instead of traditional one-vs-one like the most of the team games. The International Kin-Ball Federation counts 3.8 million participants, primarily from Canada, the U.S., Japan, Belgium, France, Switzerland, Spain, Germany, Denmark and Malaysia.

Falconry – Kingsport Environmental specializes in the time honored sport of falconry. At BizBaz they will have their raptors available for people to see and touch.  You will see them fly and do their stuff.  They offer services in areas such as bird and wildlife management for construction, specialty crops and agricultural areas as well as commercial and industrial uses.

A PIECE OF HISTORY

Made by the Pedlar Metal Co., these interlocking pressed tin panels covered the outside of the Caledon East Orange Lodge, which was built in the mid-1850s and used as a meeting house until 1977. Until it was dismantled in the spring of 2013, this historic timber frame building was believed to be the oldest structure in Caledon East. Threatened with demolition, it was taken down and stored by the Town of Caledon with the hope that it could be relocated and re-purposed.

The tin panels, patterned and coloured to look like brickwork, were installed in 1895 as an upgrade to the hall’s original painted board and batten siding. At the same time, tin roof panels in a scalloped shingle pattern were applied over the original cedar roof shingles. The rough side of the panel was exposed to the elements for over 100 years.

This project was supported by the Caledon Heritage Foundation. wwwcaledonheritagefoundation.com.
